I'm greatly annoyed by alot of things. One of those things that I'm annoyed by is a persons need to say things in order to fit in or have something in common with the person they're talking to. I follow this rule: If you have nothing to contribute to the conversation. Dont. Please spare me. It's better to be thought of as a fool than to open your mouth and prove it to be correct.
For instance, I was speaking with a friend a while back and we were talking about buying expensive items. I made a comment that I didn't have the money to buy certain items (i'll explain my stance later). The friend then said that she too didn't have the money for said item. Sounds like a regular convo, right? WRONG. Here's the thing, said person DOES have the money for it because she actually owns the item. The VERY item we were speaking of.
After calling her out on her contradiction, the comment was brushed off like it was nothing, blamed on an ailment or absent mindedness, but I cant help but to think she does this often. Friend will make comments in attempt to relate and hold conversation. Frankly its annoying.
Now, before you say I'm character assassinating, I'm not. I happen to really like the friend, but hate those types of conversations....We're poor...we cant afford that, I cant get this, I cant get that.....SAVE IT!
If I am going to engage in verbal intercourse, I would like an organic, and truthful , free flowing, no frills and no fluff conversation. We don't have to have anything in common about every subject and he or she doesn't have to pretend poor because its the "in" thing to do.
Look, she's blessed. I want her to own it. Of course she doesn't have EVERYTHING she wants, but she does have everything she needs, plus that added bonus of LOVE.
Last word: Be truthful about your blessings and don't be afraid to say, Alhamdulilah, Allah blessed us to be able to.....
